Roger and Jackie Smith Aircraft Maintenance Technology Scholarship
Coming from a humble home, Roger Smith entered the United States Army as an aircraft mechanic right out of high school. With the encouragement and support of his Sergeants and Officers, he pursued after duty training to obtain his FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification. Immediately after completing his Army service, he received his A&P Certificate at age 21. Having this valuable credential in hand opened many doors, eventually leading to a long career at Lockheed Martin. Roger retired after 36 years of service, with the last 11 at the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works facility in Palmdale, CA. This scholarship is given in honor and memory of the fine people that helped Roger obtain his FAA A&P Certificate many years ago. May your aviation career be as rewarding and fulfilling as his.
