Norman G. and Alice S. Raiford Endowed Scholarship for Single Parent Students

Established in 2013 to honor Dr. Norman G. Raiford upon the occasion of his retiring as a Professor of History. Norm taught at Greenville Tech for 39 years, the longest continuing tenure of a fulltime faculty member in the College’s history. Norm and his wife Alice, a Registered Nurse and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, have witnessed firsthand the struggles of single parents balancing responsibilities of parenting while working and attending school. This scholarship was established to assist such students in furthering their credentials in order to better support themselves and their children. Preference will be given to single parent students nominated first by SAFE Homes Rape Crisis Coalition of Spartanburg, SC and second by Safe Harbor of Greenville, SC. If neither organization offers nominees, then other single parent students shall be eligible. To remain eligible recipient must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
